Inclusion and support

Scouting is for every young person

We want every young person to feel they belong at 7th Swindon, whatever their needs, background or circumstances. If something would help your child take part, tell us and we'll do our best to make it work.

Support we can think about together

You don't need a diagnosis or a label to talk to us. These are just some of the areas we're happy to discuss, in confidence, and at your pace:

  • Neurodiversity and learningAutism, ADHD, and different ways of learning and focusing.
  • Physical access and mobilityGetting around meetings, activities and camps.
  • CommunicationSpeech, language and different ways of communicating.
  • Sensory needsNoise, light, textures and busy environments.
  • Dietary needs and allergiesFood at meetings, camps and events.
  • Medical supportMedication, conditions and care plans for activities.
  • Culture, faith and languageMaking Scouting welcoming for every family.
  • Financial supportHelp so cost is never the reason a child misses out.

Talk to us first

The best place to start is a friendly, confidential chat, ideally before joining, so we can plan any support together. Choose “Additional support” on our contact form and share just enough for us to help.

Please don't feel you have to share medical or diagnostic detail up front, a short summary of what would help is plenty. We'll ask only for what we genuinely need, when we need it.

Cost should never be a barrier

We never want money to stop a young person joining in. Confidential support may be available towards subscriptions, uniform, camps and activities. Just ask, the conversation stays private, and no one need know support is in place.

For anything else about joining, our Find Your Section tool shows local meeting options, and our FAQs answer the common questions.
