Safeguarding at 7th Swindon

The safety and wellbeing of young people is our highest priority. Safeguarding runs through everything we do, and we want parents and carers to know exactly how we keep young people safe, and how to raise a concern.

Worried about a young person?

If a child is in immediate danger, call the police on 999 straight away.

To report a safeguarding concern involving Scouting, use The Scout Association's safeguarding team, they're available every day and are the right route for concerns about a young person or an adult in Scouting.

You can also speak to our Group Lead Volunteer in confidence at glv@7thswindon.org.uk. You don't have to be certain, if something doesn't feel right, tell someone.

How we keep young people safe

  • ✓Safer recruitment. Every adult volunteer is DBS-checked and vetted before working with young people.
  • ✓Trained volunteers. All leaders complete safeguarding training and keep it up to date.
  • ✓National policies. We follow The Scout Association's safeguarding policy and Yellow Card code of behaviour.
  • ✓The right supervision. Activities are led with appropriate adult-to-young-person ratios and no adult is ever alone and unaccountable with a child.
  • ✓Risk-assessed activities. Meetings, camps and adventures are planned and risk-assessed, and led by suitably permitted leaders.
